Better late than never, right? Well, anyway Happy New Year to you all. I know this post may feel a little delayed, but it’s never too late to reevaluate your goals and intentions at any point in time. A couple years ago, I started to write out my intentions/goals for the year before the last day of the year or on the first day of the year. It has really helped me to stay focused on what I envision my life too be. I always want to grow and learn every single day. I want to be a better me than I was yesterday. I write these out each year and reflect on them at the end of the year. I usually do 10 different collective points, but this year I decided to break them down into separate “groups” or “categories” of focus.
Everybody wants to be in the best financial position we can be in. This year, I want to focus better on paying down (or off if possible) my debts. Student loans, credit cards, medical bills will eat you alive if you don’t stay on top of your game. Sometimes I will pay over the minimum payment for something because every little bit inches me towards paying it off. I also try to make sure I am always timely on all my payments, which helps a lot. I write down my monthly bills so I can budget out what exactly I have outgoing and incoming so I can adjust properly. Recently (thanks to my sister Terrin for letting me know), I applied for a momentum program through my banks to help pay on my student loans. Basically, what this program does is add $1 to your daily purchases that goes towards your student loan payment. I think it’s a wonderful thing to look into with your bank. Make your money work for you especially if you know you’ll be spending it anyway. Make room to save as well even if it is just $5. I am trying to do a thing where any time I have cash and I end up with $5 bill I will just put it away into my savings. Don’t forget to use digital coupons when you can while doing grocery shopping. You can easily save big on your grocery bill, or even any other place you shop. Take advantage of everything you possibly can to shop smart.
Side note: One big thing many of us have a problem with is impulse shopping. I’m not much of one because I like to find the best price possible. Sometimes I will shop around before buying an item. Or, if I feel like I want something while I’m in the store, I will just not buy it that day and if I can’t get my mind off the item or if it’s still there when I go back then I might go ahead and buy it. Don’t deprive yourself of rewarding yourself, but just be mindful of your spending.
Now, this is a tough on for a lot of us 20 somethings. I know it is for me. I change my mind all the time about what my heart really is into. I know this year, I want to be doing a job that truly makes me happy while still working on being a creative. I love to create. Not only do I have this blog (which I need to get better at, but I’m working on it) I am also a part of a production company called Ellis Island, LLC. We create short films, but also provide services for others through filming their events, promos, commercials, music videos, etc. I want to give more energy to WayTwoGlo and Ellis Island this year. I have some really great ideas for things I want to do with each thing. But, I still need to have a day job to pay the bills and live in the mean time. I love the people at my job, but I feel stagnant right now so I do want to find a better place of employment that makes me happy. I want to enjoy what I’m doing in all realms and that seems to be one place I am lacking enjoyment. But I do encourage every one to never quit their day dream. Always put in work into whatever it is that you want for yourself and let it come into fruition.
I would like to think I am very in tune with my spirituality, but there is always something to explore within it. I want to get more into plant medicine and really learning how to work with my crystals. I recently got some of Christmas and I want to learn how to work them into my meditations and daily life. I have a guide for each crystal and what they mean so I am going to study up. Don’t forget to take some time for yourself each day. One of my favorite quotes happens to be, “Don’t just do something, sit there” which is also a book by Sylvia Boorstein. Sometimes our bodies will tell us to just do nothing, and that is perfectly fine. I like to take those moments to reflect and maybe meditate. It helps to calm me and keep me level, because as we all know life can move so fast sometimes. Take time for self.
So for the last few years, I have been changing things for myself health wise. Sometimes that just meant not eating beef or pork. Sometimes that meant cutting back on dairy. I don’t like to do fads or popular diets. I want to change what I eat for the better not just for the moment. I love to try new recipes that I find on Pinterest or through people I follow on social media. Healthier food options can be just as good as the not so healthy ones. It’s always easier to just replace things a few at a time. It’s not always easy for everyone to go cold turkey on some things because if it’s not done right then we will go back to it and overindulge. Another thing is I’ve always tried to integrate working out into my lifestyle as well, which I really enjoy, but sometimes I fall off the wagon. I like to switch it up with my workouts, so in recent months I’ve got back into the swing of things. I really love Zumba and hip hop step for cardio or just a simple walk. There’s plenty of things you can find to do on YouTube or just by purchasing a DVD. Sometimes I just find little ways to keep active like turning on some music and nonchalantly dancing. You don’t even think about it as a workout, but it can be and it’s fun.
If it’s one thing I love most in the world, it is traveling. I love to see new things and experiences. It’s always fun to see the culture of a different place. I want to get my passport this year, which I’ve been wanting for many years now. There are many places on my bucket list of things to see and do and places to go. Exploring within my own city is one thing I want to do more. There are hidden gems here that I haven’t seen and there’s no excuse for that. I want to take a solo trip somewhere too for the heck of it. Getting cultured in different places is something I love and want to experience more of. I’ve already got a few things lined up in my mind that I want to plan ahead for this year. So excited!
So…. I hit on a few goals and intentions that I wrote for myself this year. I hope I sparked something within you reading this to want to go for this year. Everything we want is waiting outside our comfort zone. Be smart and mindful of all that you do every single day and live your BEST LIFE all 2018 and beyond!!!!
